Created by the AALA Membership Committee.

Goal: To provide agents with best practices for what to include on their website in order to establish their legitimacy in this age of widespread AI use and publishing scams, which will ultimately help inform and protect creatives. We hope that this can be a resource for applicants to the AALA wishing to strengthen their applications as well as existing members hoping to improve their online presence.

The AALA recommends that agencies include the following on their websites:

  • *Photos, bios, and emails (or at least a general email inbox or the agency email format) of all agents and staff.
  • *Clear delineation of editorial, agenting, and additional services, if applicable, in compliance with the AALA Canon of Ethics.
  • Querying instructions.
  • Client list.
  • A selection of deals, preferably as Publishers Marketplace listings.
  • Links to agency social media.

*Strongly recommended

Following the above best practices will help strengthen an application to the AALA, but admittance is determined at the discretion of the Membership Committee, in consultation with the AALA’s board of directors.
