Laura Gross Literary Agency
I grew up in London, reading mysteries and historical fiction when I wasn’t reading for school. Before Brown University, I interned at a London literary agency and then started working for three Members of Parliament, which allowed me amazing access to the government’s innards because security was not a big deal in those days, and I didn’t appear threatening. I read and researched for each Member. With an undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature, I worked in New York as an assistant at two leading literary agencies (Elaine Markson and Curtis Brown) then I moved on to become the youngest editor at one of New York’s oldest publishing houses, Scribner’s. With chutzpah and passion, I began my eponymous literary agency in 1988. I do realize what good fortune I have had to work with fantastic authors, whose writing educates, clarifies, stimulates, and entertains. I represent a broad range of both fiction and non-fiction, including some books for young adults and children. Nowadays, I am particularly interested in excellent prose by writers whose work makes us feel hope and connects us, whether it’s focused on geopolitics, climate activism, or current affairs, or stories that address people and issues about which we want to and need to know more.
