Get ready for an unforgettable event! The U.S. Book Show is back and this year AALA is partnering with PW to feature ten thought-provoking panels with 35 of the biggest names in publishing on May 23rd at NYU's Kimmel Center. Topics will span copyright to audiobooks, bestsellers to burnout, but that's not all—we're thrilled to announce that James Daunt, the CEO of Barnes & Noble, will be delivering the midday keynote. He'll be discussing the state of bookselling, Barnes & Noble's current initiatives, and how their plans for the future will impact the publishing industry.
Don’t miss out on this must attend event. The morning program is agent-centric, featuring industry heavyweights like Arthur Levine, Sally Kim, Karen Rinaldi, and Celina Spiegel. You'll also hear from Richard Rhorer, publisher of Simon Element, Peter Hildick-Smith, president of the Codex-Group, and David Walter, executive director of NPD BookScan, who will discuss the increasing role data plays in driving book sales and category selections.
And in the afternoon, we've got presentations including New York Times Opinion editor Vanessa Mobley, Hachette's Michelle Aielli, Penguin Random House's Alison Rich, Scribner's Brianna Yamashita, and Zando Projects' Nathalie Ramirez—just to name a few.
The program will also tackle a looming issue in publishing, burnout. Publishers who have transitioned to a four-day work week will discuss their experiences. The panel, “Beating Back the Flames,” will target ways agents and editors can work better together to reduce stress and anxiety. With audio being the biggest growth format, "audiobook whisperer" Scott Sherratt and Anthony Goff, president of Blackstone Publishing, will share secrets on crafting a successful audiobook and best practices on marketing them. And for those interested in digital marketing, Felicity Vallence, director of digital marketing at Penguin Random House, will discuss the rise of BookTok.
To wrap up the day, we have a final panel “When the It hits the Fan!” featuring writer and transgender activist Charlotte,Clymer, Adrian Zackheim, publisher of Portfolio Books and the conservative imprint Sentinel of Penguin Random House, and Lisa Sharkey, director of creative development of HarperCollins.
